Your Choice,Your Impact-This Weekend

change choice impact May 16, 2019

This weekend we are all being asked to choose who we want to run the country. If you have ever thought your opinion doesn't count, this is the one time you can be sure it will. Your vote will be counted and represented as the voice of your electorate and there will be a change created because of it, even if that means the seat remains as is, a new term of office will be created.

Knowing that the choice we make will actually be the final result is another thing though. Not all of our personal preferences are going to be the general consensus, yet that is not a good reason to believe that it won't count. It does and it will be counted and will continue to be the point of significant analysis after the decision has been finalised, to inform the next one.

I know It takes effort to understand who stands for what, and what they propose to accomplish on your behalf. I know its difficult to weigh up options, based on the minimal amount of information provided to you, but resolving to make a donkey vote, or create another spoilt vote of any kind, just ensures that your choice isn't represented. Even then your vote will still be counted it just won't impact the appointment directly and it too will be extensively analysed to learn for the future.

So just like any other decision we would make in our lives, it's worth weighing up our options to make our choices from an informed perspective.

Wouldn't it be more rewarding if you knew who you wanted to represent you, why that mattered, and what impact that would make because of that choice? Wouldn't using your thinking capacity and making a choice from an informed perspective, reflecting on your personal feelings to identify with the policies that resonated with you personally, and then taking action to vote for that person to represent you, be a more enjoyable way to vote on Saturday.

So here are my suggestions

1) Inform Yourself - Find out more

  • Read the material you have been sent
    • Not every candidate has sent out flyers, but it worth reading what you have available.
  • Search google
  • Ask questions of the candidates
    • Best way to find out anything is to ask. Find a way to get information via social media, or connect with a candidate directly and ask them about their policies.

2) Decide what resonates

  • Listen to your heart
    • Do the policies align with what you believe?
    • Do you feel the candidate will represent you well
    • Do you believe these choices will be good for Australia
  • Imagine how these impact, you, your immediate community, and Australians

3) Vote on the day with an awareness of your choice.

I urge you to make your vote count and know your impact matters.
